Runs acceptably smooth in this mode even on my good old P100. Only later on in a mission, when I (and the AI) have lots of units, it slows down (but I think that would happen in 640 mode too). What I dislike a bit about the graphics is that everything is so dark. Creating atmosphere is a noble task in a game, but if I have to turn brightness and contrast to maximum just to see anything on the overview map, it's overdone. -- Wolfgang Preiss E-mail copies of replies to this posting are welcome. For all the help on the DOS4G/W everyone. Speaking of which how to place a mine? I've recce some areas but it refuses to deploy. The atmosphere is dark and the explosions are impressive and I agree with what you said about the units being hard to see. I have to complain about 1 thing. Whenever I engage the enemy and there is a wall of fire after I've despatched one enemy, my units when told to engage another enemy closeby would inevitably run into the fire, causing them to explode or injure themselves. Isn't this stupid? The movements of the units are also not very responsive ala in C&C - and the speed and scroll settings are not good. Only 2 adjustments-fast and slow? I do like the look of the units but they'll have to rev their game engine a bit harder. First of all, you have to find one of the green spots on the overview map. It's easier if you turn off the 'fog of war' option. Then, the mine needs an open space of 3x3 tiles to deploy. If there are cliffs, trees, or a certain kind of rubble, it will refuse to do so. You can remove trees by shooting at them, but it will take some time. The mine doesn't have to stand on the ore-area in its entirety. Once deployed, it will exploit the tiles underneath as well as all adjacent tiles. >The atmosphere is dark and the explosions are >impressive and I agree with what you said about >the units being hard to see. > >I have to complain about 1 thing. Yep.:) I find the napalm throwing types close to useless, therefore. OTOH, the Tiger HellMaker is virtually immune against the fire it produces. On later levels, you can build the Tiger Assault, however. The Assault delivers by far the best bang for the buck. It costs 700, is sturdy, shoots with small, precise rockets and has anti-aircraft capability. >The movements of the units are also not very responsive >ala in C&C - and the speed and scroll settings are not >good. Only 2 adjustments-fast and slow? Three settings: slow, medium, and fast.:) I found it's best to deploy a unit and then more or less forget about it. Once they have decided to attack, there's no stopping them. They remind me of the Griffon Riders in Warcraft 2: One starts attacking a turret and is being shot. You order it to retreat. You order it again to retreat. You order it to retreat a third time. Scratch one Griffon Rider. -- Wolfgang Preiss E-mail copies of replies to this posting are welcome. Due to lack of publicity and marketing, the game was virtually unknown in the United States as well as Western Europe. Earth 2140 takes place in the year 2140. Previous wars have left much of the Earth a nuclear wasteland, forcing most of the world's population into underground bunkers. Tensions rise between the Earth's two major factions, the Eurasian Dynasty (ED) and the United Civilized States (UCS), as both sides vie for the world's steadily dwindling resources.
